Weaves | Oslo Hackney

Bird On The Wire present Weaves live at Oslo Hackney. Tickets are available now from Alt Tickets & more. Last year Weaves released their acclaimed debut LP. The self-titled album was among the most anticipated of the year, and was lauded internationally upon its release for its exuberant approach to guitar pop, which was described as one of the most unpredictable sounds of 2016 (MTV), and a triumphant assault on all things conventional (i-D). It was a whirlwind year for the band who spent a nearly uninterrupted 12 months on the road, playing festivals across the globe, and touring with their fellow 2016 breakout artists Sunflower Bean and Mitski. Propelled forward by their own momentum, which they corralled like the barely contained energy of their explosive live sets, it was a transformative experience. Weaves entered the studio earlier this year to record their sophomore LP, Wide Open (due out October 6th, 2017 on Buzz, Kanine & Memphis Industries). Join them at Oslo and experience the new album for yourself!

Beliefs + Special Guests

CLUB.THE.MAMMOTH. presents at The Brewhouse on 22nd November 2017 Beliefs beliefsmusic.com instagram.com/beliefsband + special guests + CTM DJs "Habitat" (CD/LP/DGTL) is set for release on September 22nd 2017 via Hand Drawn Dracula and Outside Music. It will be their third full-length since 2015s "Leaper" and 2013s "self-titled" debut. Finished in a whirlwind 16 days, Habitat was produced and engineered by Beliefs own Josh Korody and mixed by Holy Fucks Graham Walsh, who has worked with the likes of METZ and Alvvays. It features the video and track 1994, which the band premiered via Billboard Magazine. Directed by Christopher Mills (Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse), vocalist-guitarist Jesse Crowe describes "1994" as a love affair between human and concrete that explores the relations we have to the high rises around us, as living, breathing entities. Speaking on the video, director Mills says: BELIEFS write music that transports me to inter-dimensional worlds awash with waterfalls of sounds that stir up ghosts, memories, and really weird dreams. 1994 is the apex of a triptych of dream-state videos that feature magick battles, flying ghosts, and impressionistic German Cabaret inspired dance performances, dipped in Yves Klein blues, and broadcast to a broken TV set. Jesse and Josh brought an intense performance of subtleties that needed very little augmentation. The edit dutifully followed Jesses lead as she inhabited the character of a caretaker of this strange other place. I had to edit this one at a stand up work station because it was impossible not to dance while channeling the androgynous love child of Charlotte Rampling and Ian Curtis. Parallel Lines Presents Juanita Stein

Juanita Stein will be playing at The Shacklewell Arms on the 29th November. Juanita Stein says, "This record is an ode to the dark heart of America. Of times gone and times to come. Dusty trails, a whimsical 50s suburbia and the haze of the 1960s. I\'ve forever idealised American life - growing up in Australia we were fed the American dream through film and television. The dichotomy between what was real and a dream is forever intriguing to me. The music of Roy Orbison, Dusty Springfield, Lee and Nancy and Patsy Cline all informed my musical sensibilities. They opened up this wide screen universe for me. An evocative and beautiful record, Steins honeyed voice weaves stories of heartbreak and optimism, from the unmistakably Western-influenced Dark Horse, to the moody love song, Ill Cry. Florence is inspired by a real-life photograph by Dorothea Langue, taken during the Great Depression, of the eponymous Florence Owens Thompson. The songs on the LP tell tales of characters real and imagined, Steins own experiences woven amongst them. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TL8yGpanYE

Strong Asian Mothers | Oslo Hackney

London indie-electro trio Strong Asian Mothers create a colourful blend of hip-hop, electronic music, and pop befitting their love of music and individual diverse backgrounds as artists (they count directing, acting, producing, and magic among their many pursuits). The band was formed in 2012 by childhood mates Kalim "Khushi" Patel and Amer Chadha-Patel. The duo quickly incorporated friend and former bandmate Josh "Rogan-Josh" Stadlen on drums and began experimenting. Strong Asian Mothers took inspiration from the eponymous matriarchs who raised them. Pushing race and gender boundaries in \'80s England, their mothers were part of a close-knit South Asian female collective of countercultural artists and thinkers who joined their families together at parties and on holidays. This ethic was essential in their creation of the group, which represented their heritage while pushing creative and social boundaries. In the beginning, the threesome who were coming off a stint in an indie rock band dabbled with downbeat sounds, but wanted something more energetic: music to perform at parties. Accordingly, they changed their lyrical direction and added hip-hop beats and melodies. If in the studio these three excel, then on the stage is where they truly come into their own. The blend of styles and emphatic live show has been making waves on Londons gig scene and a string of headline spots for Communion have cemented them as one of the countrys most exciting and promising live acts. Blending electronic and live elements they seamlessly bridge the gap between gig and club and really bring the party. Tickets available from Alt Tickets & more. This event is strictly 18+
