Here I Stand

Astonishing new musical-play from esteemed playwright Mervyn Weir, celebrating 500 years of the Protestant Reformation. October 1517, Germany. The world is about to change but doesn’t know it. ‘Protesters change the world’ and in a singular moment, a minor monk starts a revolution that will alter history and usher in the modern world. Brought to life by a 15-piece company of actors and musicians, including Vadé, the sensational jazz-gospel quintet, currently appearing in Sky TV’s new music show,“Sing It”. The production challenges the audience around the theme of ‘protest’ as it effectively blends the iconic story of Luther with a contemporary twist. The show is an opportunity to be inspired by Luther’s stand and what it means for us today, while still being thoroughly entertained.

Rita, Sue And Bob Too

"As long as you\'re alive that\'s all that matters" Best friends Rita and Sue get a lift home from married Bob after babysitting his kids. When he takes the scenic route and offers them a bit of fun, the three start a fling each of them think they control. Andrea Dunbar\'s semi-autobiographical play, written for the Royal Court Theatre in 1982 when she was just 19, is a vivid portrait of girls caught between brutal childhood and an unpromising future, both hungry for adult adventure. Told with startling insight, a great ear for dialogue and wicked humour, Rita Sue and Bob Too was adapted into a cult 80s film. The classic play\'s original director Max Stafford-Clark directs this major new production from Out of Joint. ErictheFred

Chris Lynam\'s ErictheFred is an evocative, delightful and life-affirming piece combining twisted classical clowning, exquisite film and stunning original music. Part of #TOMtech 2017 Date & Time: Wed 4 - Thu 5 Oct, 7.30pm (doors 6.45pm) Tickets: 12.50 (10 conc.) A comically enraged performer tears his costume off, never to perform again. At this desperate point, his super conscious kicks in, fiendishly and hilariously provoking him to dream, to remember, to fall in love, to dare, to carry on or to end it all. Be transported into a strange, unnervingly familiar world where the clowns innermost thoughts manifest: instruments appear as if from nowhere; butterflies harass and cajole; knives, noose and gun all fail him. In this acrobatic tour de force, ErictheFred is pulled from one extreme to the other, running the gamut of human emotions; suffering dismay at the death of his beloved, enjoying the long awaited rapture of an adoring audience and in transcendence, traveling to the moon, only to be obliterated in an explosion of stars. Returning to his known world, our clown rediscovers his joy only for it to be smashed again in inevitable chaos. Ending in delicate surrender, the show and the clown must go on. Achingly beautiful and seriously funny for all its grimness, this is a highly structured, well-designed technical show, and yet Lynams true brilliance is that he is always there in the moment, contemporary in every way. The Stage As well as being technically excellent, its genuinely perverse and absurd equal parts David Lynch, Samuel Beckett and Looney Tunes. The Scotsman He chases butterflies, plays instruments and, in a brilliantly surreal piece of jet-black comedy, faces death itself. He is a hugely talented performer and the shows conclusion his desperation becoming too much for the production to contain is a Fringe moment to savour. Broadway Baby
