DZ Deathrays

Multi-ARIA Award winning Brisbane two-piece DZ Deathrays have come a long way from the first house party gig that they formed for. Signed to I Oh You in Australia/NZ, and Dine Alone in Canada, they have made a lot of ground over the years including winning an ARIA Award each for their first record Bloodstreams (2012) and second record Black Rat (2014). Theyve done multiple sold out tours of Australia, theyve done 22 international tours with the likes of Blood Red Shoes, Cerebral Ballzy, and Band of Skulls. They've played Reading & Leeds, SXSW, CMJ, CMW, The Great Escape internationally and Falls Festival, Splendour In The Grass and Laneway at home. They can even add a stadium tour in support of The Foo Fighters to their bucket list. 2016 saw the release of two stand-alone singles Blood On My Leather and Pollyanna which they celebrated with a world tour with good mates Dune Rats. In 2017 they are heading back to the UK & EU to show off some new material and get geared up for exciting adventures in 2018.

MALE GAZE (Castle Face) Free Show

Acid Box Promotions welcome back Male Gaze to Brighton! We hosted a free show back in April 2016 at SMFB and now we host yet another FREE show in the intimate confines of the The Hope & Ruin downstairs bar area on Sunday 24th September. Matt Jones is the frontman of Male Gaze as well as the co-founder of Castle Face Records with non other than John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees. Castle Face Records host their own stage at Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia 2017 that weekend and we\'re pleased to be bringing them back down to Brighton with us the day after. Henry Rollins - words on their latest LP "MISS TAKEN" "Matt, Mark and Adam, aka Male Gaze, return quickly from the brainy roar of their previous album King Leer with their six heels hanging even further over the edge of the abyss. Good bands often pull punches but the great ones dont and these charismatically scarred veterans of romance, gear singed from all too real firefights in the dark world of adulthood, lodge ten new slugs into your vest. Your life was spared but youll feel every second of the thirty five plus minutes, grateful that all you got was a bruising. Imagine what it did to them! Have you ever flung yourself out there to such a degree that you risked total humiliation if it all went south, to where the next step would be self deportation to some distant island of annihilation in your mind? How did that work out for you? Dont worry, Male Gaze knows and they wrote some songs about it. Look out your window, down at the glittering metropolis below and listen to this album." acidboxpromotions.co.uk facebook.com/acidboxpromotions/events

Headphase #5 - Earlier Start Special

Join us for an earlier start at The Hope & Ruin on Sunday 24 for the next Headphase. Residents Acquaintance and Matthew Balaam will be playing the usual combination of downtempo, dreamy house, ambient tech, mutant disco, 80s funk oddities, and glossy 90s US RnB. And of course there will be no shortage of tributes to Walter Becker and Holger Czukay - major dudes who are sadly no longer with us.

Mark McGuire (ex Emeralds) + Ancient Ocean & Linden Pomeroy

Mark McGuire (ex Emeralds and Oneohtrix Point Never collaborator as Skyramps) plays The Prince Albert on 25th September! This will be Mark\'s first EU tour in sometime. McGuire, of course, first came to prominence with Emeralds, a Cleveland trio who seem, in retrospect, one of the most pivotal bands to come out of the 21st century noise scene, progressively moving as they did towards sounds more melodic, engaged, directed, and also more hopeful. Like many before him, McGuire isn\'t entirely comfortable with the critically-bestowed \'new age\' tag, but the resonance is there particularly in McGuire\'s prose, and it\'s not unreasonable that he appeared alongside venerated new age masters Iasos and Laraaji in The New York Times\' appraisal of the new age music renaissance (\'For New Age, the Next Generation\', Mike Rubin, February 16, 2014). Mark has just released two new LPs, the spacey and explorative "Vision Upon Purpose" and \'Ideas of Beginnings\', a back-to-basics approach to his trancelike guitar playing. "The result is an LP that feels as natural and refreshing as summer rain" Pitchfork https://markmcguire.bandcamp.com/ Plus support: Ancient Ocean is the long-standing solo project of Brooklyn ambient composer, J.R. Bohannon. After a steady run of superb CDr and cassette releases, Ancient Ocean\'s first long-player Blood Moon was received with much critical acclaim from the likes of Village Voice, Vice, Wallstreet Journal, NPR, and more. The project has seen a banner year opening for the likes of Stars of the Lid, Ben Frost, Winged Victory for the Sullen, Pharaoh Sanders, Lee Ranaldo, amongst others. https://ancientoceanbbib.bandcamp.com Linden Pomeroy is a Musician and Sound Artist based in Worthing, West Sussex UK, applying field recordings, tapes, voice and treated guitars into compositions from expansive drones, to delicate ambient ballads. https://lindenpomeroy.bandcamp.com/ Upcoming Love Thy Neighbour shows: 02082017 - Soccer Mommy. The Hope & Ruin 22082017 - Adam Torres. The Hope & Ruin 24082017 - Warm Digits. The Prince Albert 10092017 - Acid Baby Jesus. Sticky Mike\'s Frog Bar 18092017 - Pom Poko.
